Emmett Ashford (November 23, 1914 -- March 1, 1980), was the first African American umpire in Major League Baseball, He umpired in the American League from 1966 to 1970. Emmett served as umpire-in-chief for the Alaskan summer league for three years in the early 1970's. Mattingly served as the Bucs GM for an impressive 30 plus years and gave baseball fans of Anchorage a friendly choice. You were either a Bucs fan or a Pilots fan! In 2012 Mattingly was entered into the National Baseball Congress Hall of Fame.
